Several years ago, I sat in my living room listening to two incumbents arguing on the Joe Scarbourgh show; I glanced at my dog, Lady, and thought, “Yes, I know you agree with the Republican, and there was Verdel, my other dog, and “Yes, I know you agree with the Democrat.” My cat, Sugar, I knew she fell smack in the middle. She was my Independent.

As the two incumbents continued to argue, I thought what if our pets could vote. Based on their personalities which their owners know best, who would they elect as president? I then started to ask others, if your pet could vote for the next president, based on their personality how would they vote? I was amazed at how many could answer this question without any hesitation. I was also amazed it how easy it was to now talk about politics. A subject that has always been so taboo was now open for discussion, all through the ease of talking thru their pets.

With a love for politics and pets I thought this would be a wonderful way to get more people involved in the political process. For those who were not old enough could now register their pet and be apart of the political process and for others who, like me, just love their animals could let them have a voice in the presidential election.

With these ideas in mind, I decided to create MyPoliticalPet.com, a site that would allow pet owners to register their pets to vote. A non-partisan, informative, free website dedicated to your pets and the latest political news. Register your pet to vote and share a picture of your furry friend all the while benefiting the Second Chance Humane Society.

Through volunteering at the Second Chance shelter I found out it is the only no-kill shelter in central Texas. Home to the world's largest army base, the Second Chance shelter is the only place where a soldier can leave their pets when they are deployed with the peace of mind that their animal will live and will be placed with a very caring home. However, the shelter is over capacity and lacking the necessary funds to build a much needed place for these animals.

My goal with MyPoliticalPet.com is to get people involved. Throughout our experiences while traveling the most common thing we hear is how people have lost trust in the government; that no one is listening to them, that their vote really doesn't matter. It does matter and together we can make a difference. Be proactive! Sitting back and not voting will not get it done, you have a God given right to vote and now I might say you can also have a dog given right! GET INVOLVED - TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

A very special thank you to those who have dedicated many hours of work on the belief that we will make a difference together, without them I could have never accomplished what I have. Also, to God, with whom all is possible.

In loving memory of Lady, my Republican dog, who was a very large part of my inspiration because it was through her, my other dog Verdel, the Democrat and my cat, Sugar, the Independent that I found three very different personalities who from time to time would dispute but in the end always managed to settle their differences and live in peace.
